We had so much fun shooting Julia & Gilroy's wedding at Khayangan Villa, Bali. It's one of the smallest and most intimate wedding I've been to. They chose to share their day with 50+ of their closest friends and family, instead of the typical ballroom wedding with guests list running in the thousands. This is beautiful.

Almost ten years in the making, their relationship finally blossom from friends to lovers, soon they are tying the knot on 16 January 2009.

Love & Hate relationship. My father-in-law drew this picture and sent it to me yesterday. It's simple yet so true. We live in the world that these two strong words exist at the same time, and often times towards the same person. It's a strange irony, but that's what make our lives rich. It's the closest person that could make us the happiest and also hurt us the most.

Sriyanto & Yenni's Wedding

This November, Bali seems to be the favorite wedding destination. With three weddings to shoot this month, i'm praying for beautiful weather (it's rainy season here). So last weekend, i got my prayers answered. Sriyanto & Yenni's wedding was fabulous! We even had time to get some fun shots on the beach, the day before the wedding.

I'm not a Birthday kind of guy, if you know what i mean. I don't highlight a day out of the year and make it more special than any other day. So i don't normally make plans and arrange parties, especially for my own. I didn't expect friends will remember either (thanks to Facebook, Friendster and a bunch of other birthday reminder programs...it seems like they all did), even if they don't i'm ok.

The Meaning Of It All

Words we hear people use to describe our work here in Axioo:

-Creative;
-Fresh;
-Unique;
-Different;
-Innovative;

While we're often times flattered by these, These aren't the words that we'd like to be remembered for.
When it comes to the things we do, big or small, our big word is "meaningful".

Something meaningful is not bound by trends and styles.

You don't just strike a pose. Those photos have to mean something to you.
Design and packaging aren't just hip and cool. They need to express who you are.

A lot of people have asked us why we don't show up often enough at wedding exhibitions.

That's because of the nature of these exhibitions.
Most vendors will always offer you good bargain prices and quick deals.
In a mega-exhibition, you're just another customer. Another face in the crowd.

These are contrary to what we really value at Axioo.

Almost sleepless in Seattle & what happened in Vegas

It's been a month since our trip to Seattle & Vegas shooting for Wenny & Ari. This is a record breaking trip of 3 days shoot without any breaks for jet lag and doing it solo. I love the challenge, but missed Fen (my wife)!

I love Seattle, still miss it once in a while. As soon as i land, grab a car at Hertz (super fast service...love the whole renting experience, made it all so easy) then head to the hotel to pick up Wenny & Ari. First thing first, lunch at 5 Spot cafe in Queen Anne, really good...but the portion is way too big.

Cost or value?

Cost - is an amount that has to be paid or spent to buy or obtain something. The effort, loss, or sacrifice necessary to achieve or obtain something.

Value - is the regard that something is held to deserve; the importance or preciousness of something. The usefulness of something considered in respect of a particular purpose.

Which of these two words come to mind when you're deciding through the situations listed below? Do you ask, "how much does it cost?" Or "how valuable is it?"

Two of a kind

So for the last couple of days, we've been shooting for Rieka & Thane for their pre-wedding portraits. Coming up with a crazy concept "Two of a kind" was easier than the execution. The idea is having their portraits around different animals ranging from birds, cats, dogs, rabbits, turtle, dolphins, whale and even pigs (Fen had to audition the pigs for the shoot).

35,000 miles

It's been a crazy ride here in Axioo. We've travelled at least 35,000 miles in the last two months!! That's more than a trip around the world, which is only about 25,000 miles. I've had too much fun!! A little tiring, but it's all worth it :)

Do you think people are born creative ? There's always a debate on that subject.
Aside from that unending debates, I thank God for my genius and creative Dad who taught me photography.
He was there the first time I took my first shot. He bought me my first camera, and that was the first time I fell in love with photography. And now he is teaching Axel how to paint his room ;)

Rome is the last city for this edition of our Sweet Escape. Very tired but super happy. We realized not only our bags had gained weight from all the shopping, but we also had put on weight. At first i thought after this 2 weeks, i might be in a better shape, considering we walked all day on most days. But i guess we tend to eat a lot more when we're happy, and we always do it in style...ordering the best, feasting like there's no tomorrow :)

Florence and its charms

Florence is charming. Not as busy as Milan or Rome, yet it is a favorite for many artists. We stayed in the lovely Riva Loft, which technically doesn't look like a hotel. It's a converted charming Tuscan house by the river, with only 10 spacious and uniquely design rooms.

Day trip to Versailles

Greeted by sheeps and horses, Versailles is a sleepy and charming little town just 30 minutes outside of Paris. This where the once upon a time. King Louis splendor palace and Queen Marie Antoinette impressed the world. We got there early, the morning fog and countryside scenery is so refreshing. Perfect for a cup of hot chocolate.

Still the most visited of all the European cities, Paris boasts numerous iconic landmarks, museums and shopping heaven. We start our day by walking on the left bank of Siene River, slowly making our way to Notre Dame. The view is breathtaking!
