The great part about shooting at a foreign location with a local is that you get to capture places that are not the usual tourist attractions. I’ve shot in Hong Kong a few times, but it was never like this one. Elgin is a Singaporean citizen who was born and raised in Hong Kong for the first few years of his life. He wanted to bring in the “real feel” of Hong Kong in his pre-wedding series with Kai. And I really like how they all turned out.
Elgin took us to places that I would never have discovered on my own. First we shot around Hollywood Street with the attractive yellow building, followed by the traditional markets. We even shot at Elgin Street, simply because of its name, around the local shops and at their favorite ice cream truck. But it was in Disneyland that I realized through the lens of my camera just how magical of chemistry these two lovebirds share. I can’t shake off how Kai looks at Elgin with complete adoration and how returns her love with affection in every hug. They don’t only look happy, but happiness radiates throughout their entire being.
It was an incredible experience to shoot such a lovely couple. It was a fantastic end to my two-week work trip that started off in New Zealand, followed by a wedding in Bali, and ended with the local sight-seeing around Hong Kong. Memorable! Elgin and Kai have tied the knot last month in Singapore. I wish you both a very happy life together!
