There will always be something memorable from every couple that I shoot for. A few months ago, I had the privilege of shooting the pre-wedding portraits of Charles and Irene, and I will always remember that shoot for two reasons: 1) he’s the first client in a long time that requested for a scene in simple Peranakan clothing and 2) their chemistry is so strong that every shot was unbelievably romantic, I thought everything was a keeper.
Charles is a bit of a patriotic soul; his love for his country exceeds most of the people I’ve come to know in this generation. He’s an active people representative in one of the nation’s Political Parties and has tattooed the national emblem somewhere on his body. That’s a cool fact I don’t get to say often. It’s also probably the underlying trigger to the refreshing scenes with the Peranakan outfits. And Irene, she’s a sweetheart. She knows just when to say the right things to Charles and she never fails to put a smile on his face. Even throughout the shoot, when Charles found it a bit awkward in front of the camera at first, it was Irene who kept him laughing. It’s no wonder that in between his busy schedule, Charles always finds time to spoil the woman he loves with the many things she adores. Their chemistry is so strong it was just amazing to witness. Through the clicks, all that was going through my head was a line I’ve heard often: behind every successful one there is a strong woman – and I could somehow see the truth in it when I see Charles and Irene.
Charles and Irene finally tied the knot in the beginning of this month, a grand wedding in one of the most luxurious venues in Jakarta. We’ll be posting the pictures shortly. In the meantime, Charles and Irene, I wish you both everlasting happiness.
Cheers,
Paulus
