My wife and I love Japan. I mean, what’s not to love? The hotels are excellent, the shopping is great, the people are friendly, and the food… there are no words to describe just how delicious the food is in Japan! We love it so much that we jump at the chance to explore and shoot for engagement portraits in the land of the Sakura blossoms. Anthony and Nancy are two naturally sweet people who love the idea of Japan and comic strips. We set out to Japan with a concept in mind for their photo shoot: four seasons. It turned out pretty great too – Spring and Summer in Tokyo, Autumn and Winter in Hakone.
Looking back at this has got me thinking about the seasons in our lives. I believe that every one of us is in a season right now. Relationship-wise, some of us may be entering a new relationship, or just getting out of one, while others maybe taking their relationship to a whole new level, like engagement or marriage or even parenting. I’d like to think that the beginning of a relationship is kind of like spring. Everyone loves spring. The air is cool and the flowers are blossoming everywhere you look. Then we get to know each other and before we know it, summer is here with the heat in full force. And just as we’re starting to learn to make the most out of the sun and head out to sea, autumn comes unannounced followed by winter that comes almost always too soon.
I think the key to surviving the change of the seasons is to accept and to adapt. When we’ve accepted the change and arrange our lives according to the season, we will learn to enjoy it. When winter comes and we don’t accept or adapt to it, we may be left standing in the cold with our shorts and our useless sunhats. And what a waste that would be, because with a cup of warm chocolate and snuggles in front of the fireplace, winter can be one of the most heart-warming season of all.
Anthony and Nancy, may you always learn to enjoy the seasons that pass in your lives!
Cheers,
David
