Cost - is an amount that has to be paid or spent to buy or obtain something. The effort, loss, or sacrifice necessary to achieve or obtain something.

Value - is the regard that something is held to deserve; the importance or preciousness of something. The usefulness of something considered in respect of a particular purpose.

Which of these two words come to mind when you're deciding through the situations listed below? Do you ask, "how much does it cost?" Or "how valuable is it?"

-going out on a regular date with your spouse;
-choosing a good school for your kids;
-choosing a place to take your family, friends and loved ones for dinner;
-choosing between a Mac and a PC (just kidding!);
-deciding to live a healthy lifestyle;
-taking your family out on vacation;
-providing training for your employees;
-treating yourself to a day off - "me" time! (this one goes to "opportunity costs")
-deciding on whether or not to use Axioo's services (hey, I work here, had to slip this one in).

The list goes on and on. A person with a "cost" mentality will always see the lack of resources. Costs take up resources (by resources I'll always refer to time & money). Everything will always "cost too much", because everything costs something!

A person who thinks in terms of "value", will always regard whatever resources in hand as an opportunity. They see the bigger purpose at the very end. The definition above says it best. "The usefulness of something considered in respect of a particular purpose".

I watch and observe good friends, co-workers, prospect, clients and even myself make decisions. Granted sometimes we are bound by cost because of limited resources, but in not most cases. Our minds are stuck counting the costs of everything. I wish for you readers and friends to break out of the mold of our cost-driven society to begin to value what really matters most in life. To be willing and unafraid to spend whatever resources that are in your hands and express that value. Trust me, the investment is worth every penny.

Here's a statement someone once said.

"Don't use people to love money. Instead, use money to love people."
